VVVVV talks about a spacecraft who collided with some spatial violation during his journey, and 6 crew members, all the names of which begin with the letter V, ultimately turn out to be scattered on the mysterious and treacherously dangerous space station. It seems that the fabric of space and time is distorted around it. Taking on the role of Captain Viridiana, the task of the player is to find a team and reunite all comrades on board the ship, re-activating the network of teleports. At the same time, he needs to pass several winding levels in the chaotic world, which represents an extremely dangerous environment.

VVVVV provides an opportunity for a gamer to manage the character of only three entrances: to the left, right and in an inverted gravity. Captain does not know how to jump, but it can suddenly take off to the ceiling or floor and stick to them. Dozens of fascinating spatial puzzles and problems associated with agility arise in front of the player and, above all, the time calculation. Here death comes instantly and very often, so the restart occurs immediately, and checkpoints are literally everywhere. Among other things, the player receives an infinite number of lives.
