Developers describe Ylands as "Sandbox of reconnaissance adventure and platform for creating custom games". The game has a built-in editor that allows players to create their own scenarios.

Ylands gives players freedom in creating and modifying countryside. Players can create their own character and choose an environment. Environment includes moderate, tropical, Arctic climate. The editor allows the player to create his own scenario, which allows you to establish a gameplay in different era, such as wild west, medieval Europe, even the world of steampunk and others. There are almost no boundaries in the game.

Players can share their works through the Ylands workshop and, if necessary, monetize them using game logic. Ylands is a final set of tools for creativity based on the foundation laid down in early access, and complementing the main gameplay with many new features and additions that bring infinite pleasure and creativity both old and new players.
