X Gold includes 2 parts with an addition expanding the gameplay. Travel begins in "X: Beyond The Frontier", carrying a player in the future. Humanity has reached a technological breakthrough and could move between galaxies, exploring stars and new worlds. Huge and automated machines are designed to colonize new planets, but an error was allowed in programming. After a while, artificial intelligence returned to the native place of people and attacked them.

User takes control over Kyle Brennan. He received control over the experimental shuttle, capable of independently overcome long distances. Once in the long galaxy, space transport leaves them, and the main character turns out to be in an unknown place among the alien creatures. He finds himself on the verge of death. It will be necessary to survive and use any methods for this. In the storyline, the gamer need to learn the secrets of the ancestors and to help humanity to defeat terrarifers, better known as Xenon Ras.
