Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a survival simulator supplied in very unusual conditions. In most games, such a genre, who fell into trouble, a person is forced to adapt to the wild and to invent a new way to get food, fire and water, invent weapons and clothing from healthy funds, again to prove that man is the king of nature.

In this game, everything is different. The player will have to invent all the fact that our ancestors had, because the actions unfold in Africa of the neogenic period, long before the present day. This is a beautiful and violent world, but at the same time merciless and cruel. To survive in it, you need to evolve.

The player controls the member of the primate clan and must monitor its condition, hunger, thirst and fatigue. In the African jungle of that time a lot of different dangers, including African pythons, saber-toothed tigers, giant boys, crocodiles, hyenas, giant otters, African buffaloes and others. You can use the natural dexterity and climb on any tree in the jungle, but if the player is breaking, it will break all the bones.

During the study of new locations or when shooting from predators, the player character falls into a state of fear that can be overcome if you find glowing balls, otherwise the hysteria stage will come. Also, monkeys can use exacerbated feelings to capture different sounds - predators who lost members of the community or a stranger who wants to join. Primates can use intelligence to indicate the location of various interesting items and can make new discoveries, for example identify new food or tools.

As new discoveries accomplishly achieved, primates become more intelligent and capable, begin to use new skills - create litters from leaves or use therapeutic herbs for healing. If the player dies, then under his control it turns out a new member of the community. In the event of the death of all members of the community, the pedigree breaks up and the game needs to begin again.

The goal of the game is to ensure the survival of the primate clan, which, with the help of evolution, become a completely new. As the clan grows, the player can manage different primates - children, adults, elderly and mothers. The clan is developing and the player can perform social interactions, such as calling members of the clan for hunting, research or migration to a new habitat. During sleep, players can unlock new skills by developing a neural system that replaces the test of skills. Each of such skills, like walking on two legs and the ability to use both hands, embody evolution and are transmitted by the following generations by inheritance.
